Code of Conduct
Parent’s Pledge
- I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child and their horse ahead of a personal desire to win.
- I will be on time or early for lessons or horseshows. I understand that it can be embarrassing for my child to be late to a lesson or horseshow and that I am putting him/her at physical risk by not providing adequate time for warm up. I understand the importance of picking up my child on time for lessons and horseshows. This shows respect for the trainer, who has other time commitments, and it tells my child that they are my top priority.
- I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for ALL riders, trainers, and officials at every lesson, horseshow or other event.
- I will insist that my child ride in a safe and healthy environment.
- I will support trainers and officials working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all. I will not interrupt another person’s lesson to discuss my child and will expect the same courtesy from other people.
- I understand the importance of setting a good example for my child. No matter what others may do, I will show respect for all involved in riding including trainers, riders, horses, competitors from other barns, judges and other officials. I understand that officials, riders and trainers make mistakes. If an official makes a “questionable” call against my child or Team Overlook I will continue to respect the individual and be silent.
- I will refrain from yelling out instructions to my child. I understand that this is trainer’s job. I understand that horseshows are chaotic times for children trying to deal with fast-paced action and respond to conditions in the ring. I will limit my comments during lessons and shows to encouraging my child and other riders.
- I will refrain from making negative comments about my child’s trainer or other riders in my child’s presence. I understand that this plants a negative seed in my child’s head that can negatively influence my child’s motivation and overall experience.
- I will make sure that invoices for services are paid in a timely manner.
- I will require that my child's trainer uphold the Trainer's Pledge.
