Code of Conduct
Barn and Tack Room Guidelines
While we encourage you to have fun and enjoy your horse and riding, we also want to ensure your safety and your horse's safety. Even the most predictable horse can spook for no reason at any time. No matter how well you know your horse he/she still has the capacity and force to do something out of character.
Your horse is your responsibility at all times. Horses should never be left unattended in the aisles, on cross-ties, or standing in front of the tack rooms. Bring all your equipment (brushes, hoof pick, bridle, saddle, saddle pads, girth, polo wraps rolled) to the cross-ties prior to bringing your horse out from their stall.
Especially in the wintertime, do not make your horse stand in a cold aisle with no blanket while you are with your friends in the tack room or the lounge. Remember, it is not another person’s responsibility to “watch” your horse for you, ever.
Be smart about where you tack up. If there are riders in the ring do not get ready in the aisle where everybody will need to pass you and your horse on the cross-ties when they return.
Passing horses on cross-ties should be avoided whenever possible. When leading your horse in aisle ways a lead rope should be used. Do not lead horses under occupied cross-ties. Please request permission before you pass by the horse on cross-ties.
Our horses rely on us to meet all their needs. Everybody should be helping to hay and sweep the aisles before leaving on lesson days. Make sure that you have completed all your chores with your own horse so you can help your Team! If you don’t do your part another person has to do your work too.
Please leave aisles clean before and after riding. This means hanging up loose gear (halters, leads, blankets, leg wraps, and grooming tools) as well as cleaning up after your horse. Cross-tie areas should be left picked up and clean at all times. When you pick your horses feet or clip their coat it is your responsibility to clean the aisle when you are finished.
Wash stalls should be clean and free of debris and manure after each use. Please pick out your horse’s hooves before entering the wash stall. Please do not groom your horse in the wash stall. Sweat scrapers should be used in the wash stall or outside the barn. Make sure that water is turned off when finished.
Do not use or move others’ tack, tools or other property without prior consent of the owner.
Please clearly mark all tack and clothing. Unmarked items will be put in the lost and found and may be given away if not claimed within two months.
Do not stand or sit on another person’s tack trunk for any reason.
If you need a locker, saddle or bridle rack, or a place for your tack trunk, let Lisa know. Please limit amount of tack and other equipment to what is necessary, space is limited and needs to be shared equally.
Be respectful of the lounge and help keep it clean. Turn off TV and radio when you leave.
No cell phones allowed when riding or working with the horses in the aisles/ring.
No dogs allowed at the barn.
No running or yelling in the aisle, tack rooms or lounge.
